Pattern Track

A pattern is usually created as part of a style, and a style typically contains multiple patterns. However, you can create an individual pattern in the pattern track of a segment. The pattern track provides a quick way to create content in a segment that contains variations and responds to chords.

A pattern in a pattern track plays much as if it were in a style played by the style track. The main difference is that the pattern track always plays, whereas patterns in styles play only when selected by the playback engine. Because they are never candidates for selection, patterns in pattern tracks do not have groove ranges or embellishment types.

You create and edit patterns in pattern tracks just as you do in Pattern Editor, with the exception that you do not set Chords for Composition. When you enter notes into a pattern track, you always enter them as if the chord for composition is C major.

If the segment contains a Chord Track, you can specify whether the notes in pattern tracks adjust to the chords during playback. Right-click anywhere in the chord track and click Keep Constant. On the submenu, select MIDI Notes to cause the pattern track notes to play at the same pitches regardless of the chords in the chord track; or select Functionality to cause the notes to adjust to chords in the chord track.
