Note Entry and Editing
The notes and rhythms that make up a piece of music are stored in the following places:
- Sequence Track of a segment
- Pattern Track of a segment
- Patterns in a style
Note entry and editing for each of these locations is done in Note Editing Windows.
You can use several methods for note entry:
Import a MIDI File
Import a standard MIDI file as a pattern or segment. For more information, see Creating Patterns and Motifs in the Project Tree and Importing a MIDI File as a Segment.
Record MIDI
Enter music by using a MIDI device. For more information, see Capturing MIDI Data.
Enter notes using the mouse and computer keyboard
Enter individual notes by hand. For more information, see Entering Notes by Using the Mouse and Computer Keyboard.
Copy notes from elsewhere by using the Clipboard
Copy and paste notes from the same window or another editing window or from MIDI sequencing software outside DirectMusic Producer. See Moving and Copying Notes by Using the Clipboard.
After you enter notes into Pattern Editor or a sequence track, you can select and edit the notes individually or in groups.
